How it works
Speak is the practice room. Pick a prompt, talk for sixty seconds, and see how you sound in numbers: words per minute, fillers (um, uh, like, basically), and hedges (just, maybe, sort of, I think). Each run is saved to Me, so by Day 28 you can see the line move.
Four modes: Open prompt (sixty seconds on a question like “Describe what you do to someone who has never heard of it”), Pressure (a random question, five seconds to think, forty-five to answer), Longer (two minutes, for a short talk), and Small talk (answer a line someone has just said, then keep going).
While you talk, tap once for each um you hear yourself say. When the timer ends, type what you said, or a close version, and Speak counts the fillers and hedges in it and works out your pace. Recorded yourself in your phone’s voice memo app instead? Open the recording and Speak measures your pauses, the longest one, and how much of the time you were actually talking.
Everything is worked out on your phone or computer. No recording is uploaded, and nothing is kept unless you save the run.
